The Bankruptcy Code now requires you to complete a financial education course with an approved agency* before your debts can be discharged. We are pleased to offer Indiana residents the financial program, “Money In Motion”. “Money In Motion” addresses financial literacy issues that will give you the tools to prevent future financial problems. Among key topics:
- Rebuilding finances after bankruptcy
- Developing and following a budget
- Understanding and using credit
- Predatory lending
- Identity theft
You have three ways you can fulfill your court-order pre-discharge bankruptcy education:
- You may attend one of our scheduled instructor-led classes. Click on CCCS Financial Workshops link for the current schedule of classes.
- You may come into our offices any time during normal working hours and use one of the computers in our Education Classroom to complete the on-line course
- You may complete the on-line course from the comfort of your home.
The course is approximately 2 hours in length and whichever way you complete the course, we will give you a certificate of completion from the U.S. Department of Justice Bankruptcy Trustee. You will need to give this certificate to your attorney to file with the Court to have your debts discharged.
Here’s what you’ll need to start the course:
- A $50.00 for individual or $75.00 for couples money order made payable to CCCS of Northeastern Indiana or a $50.00 for individual or $75.00 for couples made in advance using a debit card. Cash and credit cards are not accepted.
- A copy of your Driver’s License or another acceptable form of Photo I.D.
- Your Bankruptcy Case Number.
- The completed Certification of Identity for Bankruptcy Education (download here).
- Please read and consent to the attached Disclosure Form for Pre-Discharge Bankruptcy Education (download here).
The above information will be collected from you when you come in either to take the live class or use one of our computers. If you decide to take the on-line class from home, we will need to receive all of the above before we can send you a user ID and password to start the class.
