Bankruptcy Counseling & Education
Filing for bankruptcy can be a confusing and stressful time. That's why we offer special programs to help you through this difficult process. The new bankruptcy law states that you must complete a counseling session from an approved credit counseling agency and obtain a certificate of bankruptcy counseling prior to filing for bankruptcy.
You must also complete a financial education program and receive an education certificate from an approved provider prior to your bankruptcy being discharged. Our new Pre-filing Bankruptcy Counseling and Pre-discharge Bankruptcy Education will help you make informed choices. *CCCS of N. E. 1. Before You File

CCCS of N. E. Indiana works with you to develop a budget, explore your options, and create a personal action plan.

Our Pre-Filing Bankruptcy Counseling is offered in person at our main office located at 4105 W. Jefferson Blvd. Fort Wayne, Indiana or over the phone to Indiana residents.

Program cost, including certificate: $50.00 for individual or $75.00 for couples may be made by money order, cashier’s check, or debit card. Fee may be waived in certain hardship cases.

The following information is required for your in-person Bankruptcy Counseling session.

  • You must complete a Bankruptcy Profile form listing your monthly income, living expenses, and debts.
  • Please bring in your most recent creditor statements showing account numbers and account balances.
  • Your counseling session may last up to 90 minutes.

The following information is required for your telephone Bankruptcy Counseling session.

  • Download and complete a Bankruptcy Profile form listing your monthly income, living expenses and complete listing of your debts.
  • Return your completed Bankruptcy Profile form. You will need to keep a copy of your Bankruptcy Profile form for your telephone appointment.
  • Return your $50.00 for individual or $75.00 for couples (money order, cashiers check, or debit card.) Call our office at (800) 432-0420 or 260-432-8200 regarding debit card payments.

2. Before Your Debts Can Be Discharged

Pre-Discharge Bankruptcy Education

The Bankruptcy Code now requires you to complete a financial education course with an approved agency* before your debts can be discharged.  We are pleased to offer Indiana residents the financial program, “Money In Motion”.  “Money In Motion” addresses financial literacy issues that will give you the tools to prevent future financial problems.  Among key topics:

  1. Rebuilding finances after bankruptcy
  2. Developing and following a budget
  3. Understanding and using credit
  4. Predatory lending
  5. Identity theft

You have three ways you can fulfill your court-order pre-discharge bankruptcy education:

  1. You may attend one of our scheduled instructor-led classes. Click on CCCS Financial Workshops link for the current schedule of classes.
  2. You may come into our offices any time during normal working hours and use one of the computers in our Education Classroom to complete the on-line course
  3. You may complete the on-line course from the comfort of your home. 

The course is approximately 2 hours in length and whichever way you complete the course, we will give you a certificate of completion from the U.S. Department of Justice Bankruptcy Trustee. You will need to give this certificate to your attorney to file with the Court to have your debts discharged.

Here’s what you’ll need to start the course:

  1. A $50.00 for individual or $75.00 for couples money order made payable to CCCS of Northeastern Indiana or a $50.00 for individual or $75.00 for couples made in advance using a debit card.  Cash and credit cards are not accepted.
  2. A copy of your Driver’s License or another acceptable form of Photo I.D.
  3. Your Bankruptcy Case Number.
  4. The completed Certification of Identity for Bankruptcy Education (download here).
  5. Please read and consent to the attached Disclosure Form for Pre-Discharge Bankruptcy Education (download here).

The above information will be collected from you when you come in either to take the live class or use one of our computers.   If you decide to take the on-line class from home, we will need to receive all of the above before we can send you a user ID and password to start the class.
